For those of you that missed out MCTO is an event to discuss social media and how technology is currently affecting the music industry.

As the night began the vibe in the room was full on energy and enthusiasm. Guests were entertained by a steady beat provided by the DJ as everyone packed in and got ready for the discussion.
The panel included David Newland, Boris Chan, Aidan Nulman, Greg Nisbet and Ted.
Who discussed current topics, trends as well as answered questions from the audience.

To start the panel Aidan Nulman made everyone’s’ night and provided plenty of candy for the evening.
Topics of the evening included talking about digital vs organic music, the culture of sharing music and the value of live performances.

The panel contemplated what artists are currently doing right and what they could improve on. Speculated the differences between existing online and offline in real life.

Ultimately it was discussed that social media is a new tactic artists can use to become more known and build up their brands. The feeling was however, that music is a personal connection with emotions and goes beyond online presence.

The audience was widely involved in the discussion with the panelists, if not speaking out loud, the majority of the audience was tweeting their thoughts and feelings. As well Iphone users had the opportunity to upload live pictures on new Iphone Bustin while other smartphone users upload pictures directly to Twitter. #MCTO became the second top trend in all of Canada.

Following the panels discussion, many lucky audience members won some sweet prizes including:
One lucky winner won a trip to Cleveland to visit the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame thanks to Flight Centre.
CBC Radio 3 provided an attendee with the opportunity to co-host with Craig Norris live, in the upcoming future.
The first 50 attendees that checked in on Foursquare got a free copy of Bedouin Soundclash`s new album.
Two guests that added @tedinframe and retweeted his message won 8G Ipods donated by In Frame Innovation.
An exciting opportunity for band members/artists that attended #MCTO, is the chance to have their music as the soundtrack of Green Heroes TV (TVO) and be paid to do it.

The audience had a chance to mix and mingle amongst each other and the panelists. While different bands performed on stage and provided guests that were tweeting with even more cool giveaways.
Overall it was a very successful event, everyone was engaged and interested in how the trend of social media and its affect on music as a whole.

The last in our “Meet The Panel” video series from Inframe Innovation introduces Boris Chan, Principal at Xtreme Labs and member of The Eatons.  His experience with music and technology started early, when his band booked their first gig using Myspace.  We are so glad to have him join us this Thursday for MusicConnectTO.

The first panelist we introduced is David Newland, Moderator at Music Connect TO. Director of social media for Canoe.ca and editor-in-chief and co-founder of Roots Music Canada.
